Did you know there is a rabbit in the moon? In the United States we often talk about a man in the moon, but in other parts of the world—especially Asia—people talk about the rabbit that is in the moon. In fact, they not only see the bunny in the moon but they have made up stories and legends about him. In countries like India, China, Japan, Korea, Mexico and others, stories are told about the brave rabbit that was rewarded and honored for his courage and can now be seen on the moon.
But there’s not just one rabbit, there’s more. People have seen at least three different rabbits on the moon. Some people see one, and some people see another. Other people can see all three. What about you?
If the full moon is out tonight, go take a look and see for yourself. In the shadows on the left side of the moon, you might see a large bunny facing to the left with his ears back and an Easter egg at his feet like the picture in the book. Or you might make out a bunny facing to the right with his ears flopped over and his head bowed as though he is praying. Or you might spot a smaller bunny at the top. Some people think the smaller bunny looks like he has his ears back and paws up praying; others think it looks like he is racing over the top of the moon. Which rabbit do you see?
Whichever one you can pick out, you are joining people in countries all over the world who not only see the bunny in the moon but have made up stories and legends about him. In countries like India, China, Japan, Korea, Mexico and others, stories are told about the brave rabbit that was rewarded and honored for his courage and can now be seen on the moon.
When you read about Christian and Ryan looking at the moon to see the bunny, what Ryan says is true. If you look carefully, you can see a bunny in the shadows on the west side of the moon. His ears are at the top. In fact, in other parts of the world—especially Asia—people talk more about the rabbit in the moon than the man in the moon.
